Professor Tom Moultrie

Tom Moultrie is Professor of Demography in the Faculty of Commerce.

He holds a BBusSc (Actuarial Science, UCT 1992), an MSc in Economics (Development Studies, with distinction, LSE 1998) and a PhD in demography (LSHTM 2002). After returning to UCT as a Mellon Foundation postdoctoral fellow, he was appointed as Senior Lecturer in 2005, and promoted ad-hominem to Associate Professor (2009) and Professor (2015). In 2023, he was elected as a Fellow of the University of Cape Town.

Associate Professor Tracey Naledi

Tracey Naledi is an Associate Professor of Public Health Medicine and the Deputy Dean: Social Accountability and Health Systems in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Cape Town (UCT). Tracey has held technical and management roles in the government and NGO sectors in South Africa and Botswana.

Mr Bulumko Nkume

Mr Nkume holds a National Certificate Vocational (NCV) Level 3 in electrical engineering from Northlink College.

He joined the University of Cape Town (UCT) in 2016, serving initially in the Department of Student Affairs. He is now a Campus Protection Officer.

Mr Nkume is a member of UCT’s Institutional Forum. He is also a member of, and shop steward for, the Democratised Transport Logistics And Allied Workers Union, which organises in pay classes 2–12 at UCT.

Mr Yaseen Moollatjie

Mr Moollatjie is currently employed at the University of Cape Town as an Employee Relations Specialist. He holds an LLB degree (UWC), a PGDip: Labour Law (cum laude) (UWC) and an LLM: Labour Law (cum laude) (UCT).

At UCT he currently serves as a member of Senate, HRTAC and the HR Employment Equity Committee. He is a member of the National Employee Relations Forum for Higher Education and currently holds the positions of chairperson for the Western Cape Region and secretariat of the executive committee.

Dr Sharon Munyaka

Dr Sharon Munyaka holds a Doctor of Commerce in Industrial Psychology from Nelson Mandela University. She is a Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) registered Industrial and Organisational Psychologist after attaining her Master of Commerce at the University of Fort Hare. She is also a Certified Principal Business Psychologist at the Association for Business Psychology (UK).

Professor Glenda Gray

Glenda Gray, MBBCH, FCPaeds (SA), DSc (honoris causa, Simon Fraser University 2013), DSc (honoris causa, Stellenbosch University 2018), Honorary Doctorate in Law (Rhodes University, 2019), an NRF A rated scientist, was the first female president and CEO of the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC), and is currently the Chief Scientific Officer at the SAMRC.

Ms Kelly Phelps

Kelly Phelps, an alumna of the University of Cape Town, is currently an independent criminal justice consultant working with legal teams and research organisations. She is also the CEO of a civil society think tank. Between 2007 and 2023 she was a senior lecturer in public law at the University of Cape Town.

Mr Mark Oppenheimer

Mark Oppenheimer graduated from UCT in 2007 and has been a practicing advocate and member of the Johannesburg Bar for 15 years. He has appeared in the Supreme Court of Appeal and the Constitutional Court in a series of cases that seek to determine the boundary between freedom of expression and genuine hate speech.

Mr Kessler Perumalsamy

Kessler Perumalsamy is an advocate of the High Court and a member of the Cape Bar and the Pan African Bar Association of South Africa. He is also an adjunct senior lecturer in the Department of Public Law at the University of the Western Cape.
