UCT’s Media and Social Media unit communicates to internal and external audiences about university programmes, research and the activities of faculties and staff. Working closely with UCT’s executive management, the Media and Social Media unit release news and information through both traditional and social media.
Proactive media relations campaigns profile UCT in the local, regional, national, international, professional and specialist media.
Media Office functions include:
- publicising events, successes and innovations
- writing, targeting and issuing news releases
- updating students on important notices, research developments and campus events
- briefing journalists
- responding to enquiries from journalists, media researchers and social media
- promoting UCT staff as expert commentators on TV, radio and social media.

Filming and Photographing on Campus
The Commercial Development Unit, in the Department of Finance, requires that people who are interested in taking photographs or filming on campus for commercial purposes seek permission from them first.
