Terms of reference

  1. To develop policies and proposals for advanced computing infrastructural requirements to service the needs of UCT research activities, including postgraduate training.
  2. To advise the URC and DVC for Research and Internationalisation on developments in advanced computing and advanced computing needs at UCT.
  3. To advise URC and UICTC of current and future institutional infrastructural needs related to advanced academic computing, particularly regarding University budget distribution.
  4. To periodically assess and, when necessary, advise the DVC and Director, Postgraduate Studies of the need for formal institution wide computer related training and course work for postgraduate students active in research central/related to advanced computing.
  5. To consider applications for mid-level advanced computing equipment from researchers in the Faculties for departmental and research grouping level use. To advise the URC on mid-level computing needs for departmental and research grouping level use.
  6. To solicit (from researchers in the Faculties) and compose applications, to External Agencies, funding for major computing equipment destined for institution wide research use.
